Learning to live life with a balance is something I think a lot of us need.
Some of us admit that we need to just take a moment to review our life and then move along in our journey, while others think their life is just fine, when deep inside, they know that they are losing steam and suffering from burnout.
I can’t help but wonder sometimes, why is it that we are losing our balance in life?
Like a see-saw, there are constant ups and downs. It is hard to see a see-saw parallel to the ground by itself, but it takes 2 equal weighted people to attempt to balance it.
But, even still, that see-saw has got to be moving. Making it stay parallel to the ground is equivalent to not having anything move or change. That would not be the right approach as the world is constantly moving and changing.
So what are some things we can do to keep our lives in check?
1. Review our lives. We have got to know where we are heading and how we are doing. Pure blindness to the situation is not going to help matters. We have got to be honest with ourselves and ask what is it that we are doing right, what is it that we have to be letting go, and finally, what is it that we have to be doing more or less of.
2. Develop a plan of action. All talk and no action = zero. We can dream about our plans, but we have got to build a foundation on it so that these will no longer be castles in the air but real solid concrete dreams that are coming into fruition.
3. Anchor ourselves. Determining what is in our centre of our lives is key. What are we working for? Do we have a vision, goal or dream or greater purpose that we are doing this for?
4. Review and reflect. Spend time to review and reflect our plans. Chart our progress, make things happen. See how we are doing and work harder at making it work. Sitting at home and feeling helpless is not going to help matter. Helpless by itself = helping less to the situation. Surely we want to make things improve and not make it worse right?
Look at your life today. Living life with balance does not mean sitting there doing nothing so that the see-saw does not move up and down. Living life with balance means recognising that there are ups and downs in life, but with a plan of action on hand, an anchored purpose and constant review will help you see the changes in life more acceptable and help you face the challenges with a more positive attitude.
Here’s to really looking at living your life with a balance! =)
